Northern Pacific Pioneer Steam Era: This is the fourth book in a series of in-depth studies of the history of the Northern Pacific Railway and its motive power by Lorenz P. Schrenk and Robert L. Frey. This volume covers the history of the railroad from its earliest beginnings through the completion of its mainline in 1887. All of the NP's steam locomotives of those early years are described. The book includes detailed rosters and thirty diagrams illustrating the locomotives of this pioneer era.
The volume is hardbound and contains 256 pages of text and over 175 historic photographs. There also are four special color plates, including two by NPRHA member Jack Christensen painted especially for this book.
