1.5-Story Section House:
Section houses were constructed by the Northern Pacific to house section crews who maintained that section of track. Many sections had a section house for the foreman and usually a bunk house or two for the laborers. They also sometime housed signal maintainers. Most of these structures were built between 1900 and 1930, with many lasting until the 1970s. Some were sold to private parties and used as residential houses near the railroad tracks.
This kit represents a NP standard plan 1.5 story section house which posted on the NPRHA web site.
